JBL (Own Your Sound)
For JBL’s global Own Your Sound campaign, I had the incredible opportunity to collaborate with Virgil van Dijk and JBL to create a custom JBL PartyBox inspired by his journey, personality and leadership. The campaign brought together five international footballers with emerging designers and artists, translating their stories beyond the pitch into unique speaker designs and original music. For the Dutch edition, I was paired with Virgil van Dijk and producer Quinn.
I developed the artwork around Virgil’s journey to the highest level of football, incorporating personal symbols and references to his identity, career and role as captain of the Dutch national team. The design brings together football, music, culture and visual storytelling, turning the PartyBox into a visual portrait of the player. One of the most playful elements of the design was a depiction of the goal that could bring the Netherlands the World Cup title. The idea was to visualise the winning moment before it had happened: a symbol of ambition, belief and imagining your own future.
As part of the campaign, I travelled to England to personally present the finished PartyBox to Virgil. Being able to meet him, walk him through the artwork and explain the personal stories and symbolism behind the design made the project feel incredibly special. With the World Cup now played, the piece has also become a snapshot of the moment in which it was created, capturing the anticipation, ambition and dreams surrounding the tournament.
Own Your Sound was rolled out globally across JBL’s digital and social channels, alongside campaign films, original music and activations featuring the participating players and creatives. As an artist and football fan, collaborating with one of the biggest names in Dutch football was a dream project and an opportunity to bring together art, football and music in a completely different way.
